'Shadow Companions' aims to assist in the campaign to end the senseless slaughter and torture of companion animals all over the World. We believe all animals, human and non-human have a RIGHT to be safe from pain, abuse, neglect and violence.

We believe that society has for too long protected the perpetrators of violence against people and animals and has continually ignored the rights of victims to justice. We seek to assist in the reversal of this injustice. We believe abused non-human animals are victims of crime NOT property that has been damaged or destroyed.

We encourage society to recognise an animals physical pain to be equal to that of a human being and to recognise animals deserve equal protection from that pain.

'Shadow Companions' rejects any excuse from Governments, individuals, social or religious groups for the continuation of cruelty upon, or the abuse or neglect of animals. There is no reason or excuse to justify acts of barbarism against animals.

We DO NOT agree with the use of animals in medical experimentation, or laboratory testing. The end does not justify the means. We believe there are other alternatives that are continually ignored by the industry.

'Shadow Companions' does not agree with killing animals for consumption when alternatives exist. There is no logical reason to kill an animal for food when food not derived from the death of a sentient being is available for human consumption. Any arguments to the contrary are both inane and unconscionable. Though we try to understand and be tolerant of those people who continue to choose to consume animals due to the habits passed down from previous generations we will continue to hope and encourage them to realise the unnecessary death of an animal for their pleasure is not only wrong but against all that is good in the World and impedes the development of mankind to an enlightened future.

We further believe that those who kill animals for 'sport' (for pleasure not survival) should be considered as dangerous individuals who possess little or none of the compassion necessary to live respectfully in society. We consider them to be killers not hunters. 'Hunter' implies the actions of a human being with absolutely no other choice than to painlessly end the life of an animal for food. Individuals who engage in 'sport hunting' are killers, takers of life for no other reason than personal pleasure and satisfaction and have no place in society.

We do not believe animals were created to serve as slaves, entertainment or food for human beings, we believe they exist for reasons apart from our own. We see them as different Nations different Worlds that deserve our respect, admiration and in most cases our distance.

We subscribe to the philosophy of Dr Albert Schweitzer - 'Reverence for Life' and are inspired by his wisdom, strength, insight and hope for the human heart to reach it's full potential.

Man can no longer live for himself alone.
